Olympic Trials Marathon Prep
With the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon around the corner, we thought we’d check in on five of our Haute Volée and see how they stay on top of their training despite their 9-5 and family obligations.
Taking a Risk and Finding my Joy
No matter how fast of a runner we are, we are all working toward a personal goal. That might be to complete a new distance, to run a faster time, to be held accountable and consistent in training, to train with less chance of injury, to fuel properly, to add in cross training, to recover well, or to balance a work and personal life with training. No matter the reason, a coach can help.
The Art of the Pacer
Marathoner Allie Kieffer was excited to be at the start line of a marathon again, but this one had a twist! Instead of focusing on her race and pacing, Allie's purpose was to help other women get the Olympic Games standard.
The Fleshman Factor, and Breaking the Mold in Athlete Sponsorships
Pro athlete sponsorship isn't new. But Oiselle's approach has always been different.
Collaboration Over Competition
The collaborative effort behind what ultimately led to my race in Minnesota is something I do not take for granted. There were a lot of people who checked in, showed up, and led by example for me this year - all of which amplifies my ability to continue believing in and showing up for myself.
Top HV Moments of 2019
As we head into the Olympic year, we want to celebrate all that our Haute Volée accomplished this year. These are just a few of my favorite HV moments of 2019…please call out your faves too.
Salute to Kara Goucher
It’s been quite a month ... actually, more like five years for Kara Goucher. When we met her in early 2014, Kara had already begun testifying against illegal practices she observed during her time at the Nike Oregon Project (NOP). We knew it weighed on her. All the time.
The Year of Mel
I thought the 2019 season would be my best one yet. I was coming off a strong 2018, had new teammates, felt strong, healthy and ready to roll. This year was supposed to be the “Year of Mel” (dubbed by my teammates), but it felt like anything but that.
Anatomy of a Season: Finding My Feet as a Pro
I started and finished my outdoor track season this year with a road mile. My first and second *ever* road miles, in fact. On April 26 I ran at the U.S. Road Mile Champs in Des Moines, IA and finished 6th in 4:38 against a great field, and on September 8 I ran 4:22 at the 5th Avenue Mile in New York City and finished 3rd against an arguably much more competitive field.
Introducing Jenna Fesmeyer
We are thrilled to announce Oiselle's partnership with wheelchair racer and Paralympic hopeful, Jenna Fesemyer. Look for Jenna this fall: her fast and furious racing schedule includes the Chicago marathon, NYC marathon, and more!
The Third Time is the Charm
I have been named to Team Canada for the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar to run the marathon. This is not the first chance I should have been at the championships – in 2015 I was offered an invite in the 1500m, but Athletics Canada declined my chance to participate. In 2017 I was offered another invite in the 5000m, and again Athletics Canada declined my spot.
