GIVING MENTALITY
Food insecurity is a growing stressor for many families during this time of Covid, and there are so many ways to give: volunteering at a local food pantry, donating food items, donating money to food banks. I’ve been inspired by Volée members who are actively supporting programs in their communities, so I asked them where to start.
BRAS FOR GIRLS: GET SPORTY KICK-OFF
When Oiselle started the Bras for Girls program in 2017, we knew it felt right. We had extra bra inventory and we also were paying attention to new research that confirmed our suspicions and experiences: middle school girls need to hear about breast development and need access to sports bras! So we enthusiastically embarked on our first giveaways (1,800 bras in the first 2 months). We were grossly
BRAS FOR GIRLS 2020
We are so happy to report the Bras for Girls donation program is thriving and making a positive impact. We have donated more than 9,000 sports bras to more than 125 different schools, teams, and clubs. We recently partnered with the Girls Athletic Leadership Schools to distribute over 500 bras to their students. We love their messages of thanks!
CONNECTING DURING COVID
Connecting with other teammates can be challenging in the middle of a pandemic, so how do we do it? Our Volée Community App.
VOLÉE Q&A
What is the Volée? Oiselle fields a lot of questions on the Volée team, so I sat down with my coworker Mo Manuel to chat about all things to the Volée team. We cover everything from who can join, to what does a membership include and even share the inside scoop on the exclusive Volée Community App. The current opening is from October 13th through October 23rd and we hope you will join us!
LONDON CALLING
Haute Volée pushrim athlete Jenna Fesemyer was thrilled to be able to put a race on the calendar. Between the secure "bio bubble" and the tight turns, this London Marathon will be unlike any other. Jenna explains how this prep has tested her love of sport and ultimately brought her to place of gratitude and excitement.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Vaulter Magazine recently reposted an image that prominently featured a confederate flag. It was offensive, divisive, and absolutely unacceptable to post or share. So I took to Instagram and voiced my opinion. As members and leaders we have an obligation to stand up for what is right. So I did. Simple, right? They take the post down, apologize, and we all move on. But that’s not what happened.
PASSION, PERSEVERANCE, AND THE PIVOT POINT
Former Haute Volée javelin thrower Bethany Drake had big dreams for this year, but 2020 didn't unfold as any of us thought it would. As she grappled with what this meant for her javelin career she realized her heart was telling her what her mind wasn’t quite ready to admit. It was time to call a close to her javelin career.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART
Haute Volée marathoner Carrie Mack has had to continually re-adjust to what 2020 has thrown at her. From a broken toe just weeks before the marathon Olympic Trials, to an empty race calendar after a great training block, she's been game to just "be in the moment." Which is how she landed in a new adventure: a 32-mile trail test.
ANATOMY OF AN AMERICAN RECORD
By now you have probably heard that Haute Volée athlete and discus phenom Valarie Allman set the American Record, we wanted to get behind the scenes and let Val explain how this happened.
CREATING SPACE FOR ALL WOMXN - INTRODUCING THE VOLÉE MEMBERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Whether you are a returning member or new to the Volée, if you are facing a financial hardship we do hope you will apply. We have a saying in the Volée; There is Power in the Singlet. We want all womxn to experience that power of a team.
