POLE VAULTING THROUGH LIFE
Pole-vaulter Megan Clark has been a teammate on Oiselle’s Haute Volée since 2016, and it’s been such a pleasure watching her evolution and progress. Megan displays an unfailingly positive attitude and weathers setbacks with a professional growth mentality. Hear more from Megan on her 2021 so far and career reflections.
SALVE OF SOBRIETY
A story of strength, sobriety, and sexual identity. Our Volée teammate Emily opens up about her history with alcohol - and how substance abuse can become a barrier to self-acceptance and love. We’re honored to share her story from our Volée Sobirds affinity group where sober folks gather virtually to share stories, strength, and favorite seltzers.
NEW: THE IN2SPORTS BRA + BRAS FOR GIRLS
We are so excited to announce the launch of our new In2Sports Bra - which will be an always-available style from Oiselle. Each In2Sports bra purchase will donate one of the same bras to our Bras for Girls Program. Buy one, give one. Simple and effective. And best of all, this bra has received rave reviews for comfort and support from wear-testers, from 12-year-old girls to elite athletes!
A LETTER TO MY OLDER SELF
Haute Volée teammate, Sasha Gollish, was inspired by her teammates posting letters to their younger selves and penned a letter to her older self.
OLYMPIC MARATHON TRIALS: 2021 EDITION
What a difference a year makes! Leap Day, 2020 - we had 24 racers getting ready to line up at the marathon Olympic Trials in Atlanta. A mere dozen days later, the country shut down. Although we all changed course as mandated by COVID, 7 of our marathon athletes made a bigger life pivot and decided to usher new life into the world. Let’s hear from these remarkable women.
CONDITIONS OF SATISFACTION
"I’ve always resisted presenting myself as having a singular identity. I want and need to be more than a runner. Just as I want and need to be more than a mother. And that’s where most of my fear comes from, I think. The fear of losing myself. "
STAND BY YOU: AN ASIAN AMERICAN RUNNER'S RACIAL AWAKENING
After reading an eye-opening article on the whiteness of running, Oiselle Volée member Jinghuan Liu Tervalon realized she had relied on her privilege as being the model minority for too long. It was time to make amends.
ATHLETES AND MENTAL HEALTH
Let’s face it, 2020 was a s*** year! There is so much collective grief and suffering right now. As a therapist, I can tell you firsthand that many people are currently in crisis. Athletes are no different from other people. When we separate the athlete from the person, we are essentially saying, “you need to sacrifice your mental well-being to achieve success in the sports world.”
ALISON MARIELLA DÉSIR JOINS OISELLE
We are excited to announce that Alison Mariella Désir is joining our Leadership Team in Seattle as the Director of Sports Advocacy. The newly created role combines community, culture, and movement building as the brand works to strengthen both internal team culture and outward-facing community outreach with the goal of making running a more inclusive space.
BIRDS OF A DIFFERENT FEATHER
We’ve all heard the proverb, “birds of a feather flock together”, but if 2020 taught us anything, we fly further when that flock includes the support of a variety of feathers. At the end of 2020, our Volée Team Manager, Carolyn Gardner took a deep look at the Volée and asked the question - what are we doing to be an inclusive team of all types of birds?
HEAD UP, WINGS OUT, VALARIE ALLMAN!
We want to celebrate Val Allman's time with Oiselle the past few years as she transitioned from an accomplished collegiate athlete to a 2-time US champion, American record holder, and top Discus thrower in the world for 2020. It is time for Val to fly on in her professional career with a new sponsor and we wish her the best of health, luck, strength, courage, and grit.
