ALISON MARIELLA DÉSIR JOINS OISELLE
We are excited to announce that Alison Mariella Désir is joining our Leadership Team in Seattle as the Director of Sports Advocacy. IN GEORGIA WE TRUST
"This past week, while white supremacists desecrated the Capitol Building, carrying symbols of hate and racism, all I felt was disgust and outrage. But also, followed by a feeling of confidence, that we were entering a new era, led by those who refuse to edit their ambitions for justice."
THE THREADS OF HISTORY THAT WEAVE US ALL TOGETHER
Oiselle's social media specialist, Rebecca, began writing a weekly series highlighting the stories of women in athletics. After starting with some better-known athletes, she soon started following the threads of their lesser-known teammates – women whose stories deserved more attention. So, how much richer does the body of women’s sports history become if we dig in and tell more of these stories?
WHO IS...DINÉE?
Get to know Volée teammate Dinée Dorame. Dog mom to two Schnoodle pups and a citizen of the Navajo Nation, Dinée is elevating Indigenous voices through running.
GIVING MENTALITY
Food insecurity is a growing stressor for many families during this time of Covid, and there are so many ways to give: volunteering at a local food pantry, donating food items, donating money to food banks. I’ve been inspired by Volée members who are actively supporting programs in their communities, so I asked them where to start.
THE HEALING POWER OF PETS
Oiselle athlete and Littlewing teammate Rebecca Mehra recently sprained her ankle doing a drill at practice. Luckily the kittens she had adopted just 2 days prior were there to nurse her back to health.
BRAS FOR GIRLS 2020
We are so happy to report the Bras for Girls donation program is thriving and making a positive impact. We have donated more than 9,000 sports bras to more than 125 different schools, teams, and clubs. We recently partnered with the Girls Athletic Leadership Schools to distribute over 500 bras to their students. We love their messages of thanks!
QUARANTINE, LIBERATION, AND RECOVERY
Oiselle teammate and marathoner Andie Cozzarelli shares her reality of 2020, coping with isolation, anxiety, and depression. None of us are alone.
BTS: BIRD MACHINE
As I write in the opening spread of Bird Machine, our first-ever publication, lifting athlete voices is core to Oiselle. And while this piece also includes info about what's new and notable in the O line, what will grab you will be the new and original writings from Lauren Fleshman, Kara Goucher, and Alison Mariella Désir. Fit to print. Fit to celebrate. Fit to read, earmark, and save.
SUPPORTING A COMMUNITY WITH MUTUAL AID
You’ve heard us say Community is Everything and for some, this community is literally right outside their doorstep. With the pandemic causing quarantine restrictions and loss of jobs, we’ve seen Mutual Aid neighborhoods across the country coming together to support those in their local communities. Our NYC Volée leader, Daniela Alvarado shares her experience on how a Mutual Aid program was set up and functions in her Upper West Side neighborhood.
CONNECTING DURING COVID
Connecting with other teammates can be challenging in the middle of a pandemic, so how do we do it? Our Volée Community App.
